A VOICE FOR CHANGE

We at Be Tire Safe Foundation believe that everyone can do their part to help make roads safer through proper tire maintenance and replacing tires when they’re no longer safe to have on your vehicle.

One of our founding goals was to pass legislation in Arizona concerning the sale of unsafe tires. This was accomplished with the signing into law of Arizona House Bill 2399 in 2017. This law makes it unlawful to keep unusable tires in circulation and requires that such tires be declared “waste tires” and be disposed of accordingly.

2017 LEGISLATIVE SESSION

Arizona roads experience high rates of tire failure, especially in the summer months. It’s no surprise, considering the negative effect heat has on rubber and tire structure. By proposing legislation to define what tires are safe to drive, and by preventing unsafe used tires from being sold, we helped make Arizona roads safer for everyone.

The changes that were implemented in 2017 Arizona House Bill 2399 defined tires that are no longer safe to drive as “waste tires.” This includes tires that pose a risk to public safety because they are too worn, damaged, or because they are defective and subject to a recall. Previously, there were no limitations preventing a tire dealer from selling you used tires that match this description. Because this bill was passed into law, these tires will no longer be available for re-sale in Arizona. This will promote road safety for all of us, and save lives in the process.
